How The Other Half Live - Bath

Blog
#CityGuide
Dearest gentle reader, many of the most desirable places to live in the fair city of Bath are also home to the Ton - it's clear to see why this was a favourite filming location for Bridgerton. With its famous thermal spa waters, Georgian terraces, cream teas and reputation as the home of Jane Austen – Bath has always been a very desirable place to live.

The quintessentially English charm of Bath pulls in visitors from around the world and it has so many historic buildings that the entire city has been listed a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For those of you binge-watching the newest season of Bridgerton, this is the city for you. Bath has a starring role in the show as its regency era Georgian buildings regularly feature in the hit series. You too can live your regency fantasies on the streets of the city with the soundtrack in your ear and visit the many filming locations.

While exploring the stunning streets, you might even spot a famous face or two. But where do the rich and famous call home? Let’s look at the most expensive areas to live in Bath and see how the other half lives…

THE CIRCUS

Originally called King’s Circus, this remains to be the most exclusive address in Bath and one of the most expensive in the UK, with prices reaching over £3.1million for a property.

It's a stone's throw away from one of Bridgerton's favourite families, the Featheringtons' fictional home at No.1 Royal Crescent.

Hollywood actor, Nicholas Cage once lived at The Circus in a magnificent Grade I listed townhouse and even turned on the Bath Christmas lights in 2009.

The Circus consists of three curved segments of grade I listed townhouses that form a circle with three entrances. The stonework is full of detail for those who look closely – serpents, acorns and nautical symbols are some of the emblems that embellish the stone.

As well as Hollywood actors, the area has been home to many notable artists and authors over the years such as artist Thomas Gainsborough who lived at number 17 between 1759 and 1774.

Although an attraction in itself, The Circus is also moments away from the Jane Austen Centre where you can step into the world of the famous author.

WIDCOMBE

Widcombe is often voted Bath’s poshest neighbourhood with the current average property value sitting at £1.2 million.

Known for its independent cafés, bars and restaurants, Widcombe is one of the most popular places to live. Situated in the south-east of the city and close to Bath Spa train station, it’s the perfect location for commuters.

The high street is lined with stunning Georgian terraces but there is green space near with the National Trusts Prior Park Landscape Gardens.

Widcombe is very near Lady Danbury's stunning home - otherwise known as The Holburne Museum.

If you want to see Widcombe for yourself, you're very close to the American Museum & Gardens. There, you can see pre-1880s American items including room replicas and a wagon.

WESTON PARK

A close second ‘posh neighbourhood’ to Widcombe is Weston Park with a current property average of just over £1.1 million.

This leafy area, just north of Bath City Centre, is surrounded by trees and green spaces and is handy for the Royal United Hospital.

The area which is home to everything from stunning stately homes to quirky townhouses has been known to have houses sell for over £6 million!

Weston Park is also home to some beautiful Botanical Gardens, worth a visit for any visitor.

CLAVERTON DOWN

With the average house price sitting at just under 1 million (£834,225), Claverton Down is an ‘affordable’ expensive area...

The area is mainly rural in contrast with many of the city’s other neighbourhoods and is also home to the University of Bath.

That's not all, with it being so close to Widcombe, Bath’s American Museum can be found here as can many walking trails. However, despite its rural feel, Claverton Down is just an 11-minute drive into the city centre.

But the best home in all of Bath? It's Apex City of Bath Hotel of course! Find your home from home here and explore this stunning city with us. Check out our luxury, 4-star hotel and latest offers here.
